Free Garment Sewing Patterns

Here’s a collection of free sewing patterns I’ve sewn or have come across. I haven’t tried them all — but if I have and I recommend it, you’ll see a ✅ beside the listing.

Each year, dozens of sewing YouTubers participate in Sew Frugal and focus on free patterns. I’ve participated a couple of times (links below), and if you want to see more from other YouTubers, check out the #sewfrugal tag.

Free patterns are a great way to discover independent pattern designers. While exploring these, I’ve come across several new-to-me designers whose paid patterns I have purchased or plan to buy.

If you enjoy a free pattern, consider supporting the designer by purchasing one of their paid offerings. It’s a great way to help small businesses continue creating the patterns we love.

Peppermint Magazine (UK) has a couple of dozen free garment patterns. Size inclusive. 🆕

Tiana’s Closet has interesting patterns like frilly dresses and harem pants. I have not sewn but a friend recommends. 🆕

Unfettered Patterns 🇨🇦 also has interesting and current designs (barrel pants, anyone?). Recommended by a sewing friend. 🆕

Anna-Zoe Patterns | Tabitha Tank | 🇨🇦 Also made for Sew Frugal 24. This pattern comes in B and C cups (I used the C cup) and it is really nicely shaped. As described, it is slightly racerback but I found that my bra straps don’t show. It’s extremely well drafted. Everything fits together right. Recommend ✅

Closet Core | Core T-Shirt 🇨🇦

Ensemble Patterns | Greco T-Shirt 🇨🇦 – UPDATE: Sadly, this pattern company has closed shop.

Helen’s Closet | Luna Tank 🇨🇦

Jalie Patterns | Èmilie Square Roll-neck top 🇨🇦 – I have made this top several times. It’s an excellent choice for a quick, cold weather sweater. Recommend ✅

Mood Sewciety | Clay Blouse | I made this blouse/shirt for Sew Frugal 24. It’s very, very loose fitting. Don’t think I would make it again.

Mood Fabrics (through Mood Sewciety) has dozens, if not hundreds of free patterns. They’re often in current styles, although the instructions are sometimes a bit brief.

Sofiona Designs | Reusable face wipes, case & laundry bag 🇨🇦 This free pattern set could be used to make up an excellent gift. The patterns include reusable makeup wipes (the kind to remove eye makeup) plus a case for the wipes and a laundry bag. This is definitely on my list for Christmas gifts in 2022.

Threadora Gowns | 1/2 scale mannequin 🇨🇦 Are you curious about sewing a gown? Threodora offers a small mannequin and small dress patterns so you can learn your skills in a small size.
